Abu Dhabi to build $60m central market

ABU DHABI, April 18, 2017

The Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport, represented in the Municipality of the Dhafra Municipality, is set to develop a central market at Madinat Zayed in the Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi at an investment of Dh222 million ($60.4 million), said a report.

The project will be developed on a build, operate, transfer (BOT) model in co-operation and partnership with the private sector within the 53,307-sq-m Madinat Zayed, reported state news agency Wam.

The central market will be a two-floor facility, with the ground floor housing a hypermarket, retail stores, commercial stores and entertainment facilities, while the first floor will include restaurants, retail stores, kiosks, as well as a children’s play area, shops, health centres, public hallways, waiting areas, cinema theatre and a multipurpose hall, it stated.

The areas outside the project will include shops that could be an alternative for tenants in the current market, parking lots, green areas and walkways, the report added.
