Sharjah to start work on new road project

SHARJAH, July 18, 2017

Sharjah Urban Planning Council (SUPC) has launched the University City Road Enhancement Project at an estimated cost of Dh146 million ($40 million), in collaboration with the Sharjah Road and Transport Authority.

The project is aligned with the Sharjah leadership's plan to ensure sustainable development of the emirate, while setting up a world-class urban planning system to guarantee quality and responsive projects, reported state news agency Wam.

The project, which will extend almost 3 km encompassing around 52,000 sq m of land, will transform the area in front of the existing businesses on University City Road, starting from Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road to University City, into a modern, well organised, useable and sustainable public realm, said the report.

The space will include wide sidewalks, native species landscaping areas, a bike path and parking, it added.
