Bahrain's imports reach $999.6m in April

Bahrain’s value of imports reached about BD377 million ($999.6 million) in April, according to a report which encompasses balance of trade, imports, exports and re-export (national origin).

The top 10 countries accounted for 67 per cent of the imports value, according to the Foreign Trade Report of April 2017 by Bahrain’s Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA).

China was the top exporter to Bahrain with BD44 million ($116.6 million) worth of exports; followed by the UAE with BD40 million ($106.06 million), and Saudi Arabia came third with BD27 million ($71.5 million), according to the report.

Additionally, the value of national origin exports reached approximately BD164 million ($434.8 million). The top 10 countries account for 86 per cent of the exported national origin value.

Saudi Arabia ranked as the leading importer from Bahrain with BD44 million ($116.6 million); the US came second with BD22 million ($58.3 million) and the UAE was placed third with BD19 million ($50.3 million).

As for exported products, agglomerated iron ores and concentrates emerged as the top products exported in April with BD35 million ($92.8 million); aluminium wires were positioned second with a value of BD19 million ($50.3 million); and rectangular alloyed aluminium plates stood third with BD10 million ($26.5 million).

The value of re-exports from Bahrain reached BD45 million ($119.3 million) during the period.  Saudi Arabia was ranked top for re-exports from Bahrain with BD17 million ($45.08 million), China ranked second with BD10 million ($26.5 million), and UAE third with BD6 million ($15.9 million).

Four-wheel drive cars emerged as the top product re-exported from Bahrain with BD11 million ($29.17 million), cigarettes came as second products with BD2.4 million ($6.36 million), and Sedan cars came as the third with BD2 million ($5.30 million).

The trade balance, the difference between exports and imports, was BD167 million ($442.8 million) deficit, a decline in value compared to the previous month. – TradeArabia News Service
