Internet study findings to be revealed

Manama, October 19, 2010

Findings from Bahrain's first ever 'state-of-the-nation' review into Internet safety will be revealed by the country's telecom watchdog next week.

The Online Safety: A Road Map for the Future review was conducted under the direction of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) earlier this year.

It was undertaken to examine the way adults and young people use online facilities.

Aimed at measuring confidence in using services and analysing safety and security online, the review was headed by British digital forensics and online abuse experts Professor Julia Davidson and Dr Elena Martellozzo.

They will appear alongside Bahrain University's Dr Khalid Al Mutawah at the Ritz-Carlton Bahrain, Hotel and Spa on Monday, during which the findings and recommendations from the study will be unveiled.

The idea behind the review was to ascertain just how safe users think the Internet is and how much they use it and was based on the Byron Review, carried out in the UK in 2008.

It started with the opening of an online consumer survey in March.

Separate surveys of around 3,000 school students, school focus groups and relevant stakeholders also took place to gauge the use of the Internet by children in Bahrain.-TradeArabia News Service
