Top film festival to honour high achieving men, women in ME

DUBAI, March 6, 2017

The WOW Film Fair Middle East Charity Gala Dinner and Awards ceremony taking place on March 7 at the Park Hyatt Dubai will be held under the patronage of HE Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development.

HE Sheikh Nahayan will present the main film festival awards as well as others, recognising high achieving women and men in the Middle East across various fields, including Humanitarian of the Year, Business Leader of the Year, Personality of the Year, Sports Leader of the Year and Rising Talent Leader of the Year.

The awards evening is being held to commemorate International Women’s Day on March 8 with all proceeds of the event being donated to the Al Jalila Foundation, a global philanthropic organisation, which was established by HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to position Dubai at the forefront of medical innovation.  

The six-day fair which is showcasing 31 films created predominantly by female filmmakers, producers and screenwriters from 24 countries across five continents, held a VIP red carpet opening last night in Nation Towers, VOX Cinemas, Abu Dhabi.

Welcoming key note speaker Australian Embassy deputy director Head of Mission Her Excellency Susan Grace, the leading diplomatic community and various ambassadors from around the world to the venue, the event launched with a screening of award winning film Surgery Ship, from Australian director Rebecca Barry.

The WOW Film Fair Middle East is a Dubai-based Straight Street Media production by leading TV News Anchor, Hermoine Macura. Supported by the Australian governments Council for Australian Arab Relations (CAAR), the festival is held in association with VOX Cinemas, Mall of the Emirates, with films also showing at various locations.

WOW monthly membership also allows individuals to support the fair and access the entire programme, including exclusive workshops, special screenings, seminars and networking events with regional filmmakers.
