Large-scale food donation drive launched in Bahrain

MANAMA, August 14, 2017

The Conserving Bounties Society has launched a large-scale food donation drive across Bahrain to support families and labourers with well-balanced meals sourced from large-gathering events and venues.

Many of the low-income individuals, as well as families with young children, have limited access to adequate, nutritious food; coupled with unfortunate statistics of 10,000 meals wasted on an average day on the island. Through its initiative, the Bahrain-based society reaches out to more than 1,500 individuals on a daily basis across various neighbourhoods, with ready-to-eat freshly prepared meals that are quality-assured and immediately distributed to people who need it the most.

The society has made significant progress in reaching out to the local community and has garnered extensive support from Viva Bahrain, Yousif & Aysha Y.K. Almoayyed charity foundation, Al Zayani investment, Bahrain Credit as logistic and financial supporters.

Food is donated by the Gulf Hotel, Sheraton Hotel, Downtown Rotana, Alosra supermarket and Paul Cafe (Seef Mall and Bahrain City Center) for collaboration on this program and have successfully raised an incredible number of 90,000 meals, within just first few months of their collaboration.

Moreover, through its partnerships, the initiative is run out of Viva’s corporate headquarters which includes a dedicated office space with IT facilities and storage area with a fully-equipped station. Vans donated by Yousif & Aysha YK Almoayyed charity foundation and Zayani Investments to transport food manned by six full-time fully trained staff and volunteers.

In Ramadan alone, the initiative reached out to over 200 families in Budaiya, Hamad Town, and Muharraq; and 1,500 blue-collar workers across four labour camps in Sitra, Muharraq and Manama, to distribute over 11,903 food parcels gathered through 150 events.

Abdulatif Al Rajhi, chairman of Conserving Bounties Society said: “The Conserving Bounties initiative was launched with the purpose of generating much-needed awareness on food wastage and its impact on the local community while helping families and individuals gain access to balanced meal and nutrition they need. Over the past few months, we have received an overwhelming response to our program, thanks to our esteemed partnerships with Viva Bahrain, Yousif & Aysha YK Almoayyed charity foundation, Al Zayani investment, Bahrain Credit as logistic and financial supporters.”

“Food is donated by the Gulf Hotel, Sheraton Hotel, Downtown Rotana, Alosra supermarket and Paul Cafe (Seef Mall and Bahrain City Center) who have extended their full support to help us work towards reducing food hardship and reach out to more community members. This has reinforced our commitment to the cause and continue to work towards contributing to the local community’s well-being,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
