Solar, renewable focus for debut Bahrain energy expo

MANAMA, August 21, 2017

Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming first Energy Investment Forum and Exhibition (Steeb 2017) in Bahrain from September 17 to 19, Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr Abdulhussain Mirza said.

The event will showcase the latest developments in solar energy, renewable energy and technology and compare them with other sources of energy and the environment, a Bahrain News Agency report said.

Experts working in the field of energy, such as investment institutions interested in financing these projects, as well as manufacturers of this technology, research institutions and universities, along with representatives from the United Nations, diplomatic missions, chambers of commerce and industry of the GCC and other Arab countries will attend.

The minister thanked and appreciated the wise leadership for supporting such activities. He also thanked all companies, ministries and agencies involved in sponsoring the event and said their support would enable owners of small and medium enterprises to identify energy alternatives.

These include factory roofs, parking lots and other facilities that would contribute to reducing pressure on traditional sources of energy.

The minister said Bahrain’s Sustainable Energy Unit (SEU) was established in May 2014 to promote energy alternatives and the future of energy, not only in Bahrain but also in the GCC countries.

He said the unit is focussing on setting up and supporting sustainable energy projects, enhancing efficiency and supporting renewable energy projects and initiatives by establishing and supporting specialised forums.

The minister said the responsibility of organising the upcoming event has been given to the Arab Gateway Exhibition Center (AGE), led by its CEO Amira El Hassan, in collaboration with SEU and Tamkeen.

In a statement, Amira Al Hassan said the event programme will include technological aspects and investments in renewable energy, especially in view of the continuous movement at all levels to introduce these important developments in energy technology as well as the recent move by local councils to transform the idea of renewable energy to real opportunities.
