Modhesh World brings West African music to Dubai

DUBAI, July 27, 2017

Adding to its eclectic live stage performances, Modhesh World, one of the most popular indoor edutainment destinations in the region, recently unveiled a new show ‘African Drummers’ to visitors.

The live show performed at Show Town zone in Hall 6 of Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) aims to bring the drumming beats and unique dance form of West Africa to a global audience in Dubai.

Four performers use the ‘djembe’, a rope-tuned goblet drum played with bare hands, to produce enchanting rhythms and pacey beats that bring the crowd and especially children to their feet. Drumming is an indispensable part of West African entertainment culture and a common sighting at important occasions like festivals, wedding celebrations and to narrate stories.

At Modhesh World, the performance is turned into an interactive show aimed at introducing children to basic notes of drumming and teaching them traditional dance steps which are in sync with the beats. The troupe’s leader calls them on the stage in groups while his team plays the djembe in varying pace, and the children tap their feet and perform simple dance moves in synchronisation with the fast beats.

Along with introducing them to sounds that are native to West Africa, the show aims to underscore the power of music that cuts across languages and cultures to unite people with a simple tune. It highlights passion, coordination and teamwork amongst music composers to help the audience have a great time as a family.
